Sahih al-Bukhari 6496 (Book 81, Hadith 85) #6245
The Importance of Honesty

SUMMARY: Honesty is an important value and should not be taken lightly. When it is lost, the end of the world will come.

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Messenger said, "When honesty is lost, then wait for the Hour". It was asked, "How will honesty be lost, O Allah's Messenger ?" He said, "When authority is given to those who do not deserve it, then wait for the Hour".

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive for honesty in all your dealings with others

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith emphasizes the importance of honesty in our lives. It was narrated by Abu Huraira that Allah's Messenger said, "When honesty is lost, then wait for the Hour". In other words, when people stop being honest with each other and start lying or deceiving one another, then it will be a sign that the end of the world is near. He also said that when authority is given to those who do not deserve it, then this too will be a sign that we are close to Judgment Day. This hadith teaches us to always strive for honesty in our dealings with others and to never give authority or power to someone who does not deserve it. We must remember that dishonesty can have serious consequences both in this life and in the hereafter.
