Sahih al-Bukhari 6445 (Book 81, Hadith 34) #6194
The Importance of Spending Wealth in Allah's Cause

SUMMARY: Spending all of one's wealth in Allah's cause is more important than keeping it for oneself.

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah Apostle said, "If I had gold equal to the mountain of Uhud, it would not please me that anything of it should remain with me after three nights (ie, I would spend all of it in Allah's Cause) except what I would keep for repaying debts".

QUICK LESSONS:
Spend your wealth in Allah's cause generously while being responsible towards debt repayment.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith, narrated by Abu Huraira, speaks to the importance of spending one’s wealth in Allah’s cause. The Prophet Muhammad said that if he had gold equal to the mountain of Uhud, he would spend all but what was necessary to repay debts within three nights. This emphasizes how important it is for Muslims to use their resources and wealth for good causes and not keep them solely for themselves. It teaches us that we should be generous with our money and possessions and use them as a means to help others or further a good cause. We should also remember that any debt we owe must be repaid before anything else can be done with our money or possessions.
