Sahih al-Bukhari 6426 (Book 81, Hadith 15) #6175
Competing for the Pleasures of This World

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ warned his followers against competing for the pleasures of this world and reminded them that he will be a witness against them.

Narrated 'Uqba bin 'Amir: The Prophet went out and offered the funeral prayer for the martyrs of the (battle of) Uhud and then ascended the pulpit and said, "I am your predecessor and I am a witness against you. By Allah, I am now looking at my Tank-lake (Al-Kauthar) and I have been given the keys of the treasures of the earth (or the keys of the earth). By Allah! I am not afraid that after me you will worship others besides Allah, but I am afraid that you will start competing for (the pleasures of) this world".

QUICK LESSONS:
Focus on your spiritual journey, Do good deeds in order to gain Allah's pleasure

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was reminding his followers about the importance of not competing for worldly pleasures. He said that he is their predecessor and will be a witness against them on the Day of Judgment. He also mentioned that he can see his Tank-lake in Paradise and has been given keys to all the treasures in this world. This hadith teaches us to focus on our spiritual journey rather than chasing after materialistic things which are temporary and fleeting. We should strive to gain Allah's pleasure by doing good deeds instead of trying to compete with others for worldly possessions or status. It also reminds us that we will all be held accountable for our actions on the Day of Judgment so it is important to stay away from anything which could lead us astray from Allah's path.
