Sahih al-Bukhari 6111 (Book 78, Hadith 138) #5867
Respectful Prayer

SUMMARY: One should not spit in front of them while praying as Allah is in front of them.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: While the Prophet was praying, he saw sputum (on the wall) of the mosque, in the direction of the Qibla, and so he scraped it off with his hand, and the sign of disgust (was apparent from his face) and then said, "Whenever anyone of you is in prayer, he should not spit in front of him (in prayer) because Allah is in front of him".

QUICK LESSONS:
Show respect for Allah by being mindful and aware during prayer time.

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad saw sputum on the wall of the mosque and scraped it off with his hand, showing his disgust. He then taught that when one is praying, they should not spit in front of them as Allah is in front of them. This hadith teaches us to be respectful and mindful when we are praying to Allah, as He is always watching us. We must remember to show respect for Him by being mindful and aware of our actions during prayer time. We must also remember that even though we may not be able to see Him, He can still see us and knows what we are doing at all times.
