This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's visit to the graveyard of Medina. He heard two people being tortured in their graves and asked what they had done wrong. He was told that they were not being punished for major sins, but rather small ones; one person did not take care to avoid getting urine on himself, while the other spread rumors or calumnies about others. The Prophet then took a green palm tree leaf and split it into two pieces, placing one piece on each grave with the hope that this would lessen their punishment as long as the leaves remained fresh.
