Giving Alms in Islam

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ ordered women to give alms and they responded by putting their rings in the garment of Bilal.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: I offered the 'Id prayer with the Prophet and he offered prayer before the Khutba (sermon). ibn 'Abbas added: After the prayer the Prophet came towards (the rows of) the women and ordered them to give alms, and the women started putting their big and small rings in the garment of Bilal.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ شَهِدْتُ الْعِيدَ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ فَصَلَّى قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ‏.‏ وَزَادَ ابْنُ وَهْبٍ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ فَأَتَى النِّسَاءَ فَجَعَلْنَ يُلْقِينَ الْفَتَخَ وَالْخَوَاتِيمَ فِي ثَوْبِ بِلاَلٍ‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of giving charity or alms in Islam. It was narrated by Ibn 'Abbas that he offered the Eid prayer with the Prophet ﷺ and after the prayer, he came towards the rows of women and asked them to give alms. The women responded by putting their big and small rings into Bilal's garment as a form of charity. This hadith shows us that giving charity is an important part of our faith as Muslims and it is something we should strive to do regularly. It also teaches us that even small acts can make a difference when done with sincerity for Allah's sake.
