Sahih al-Bukhari 5876 (Book 77, Hadith 93) #5637
Discouraging Gold Rings

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ discouraged people from wearing gold rings by throwing away his own.

Narrated 'Abdullah: The Prophet had a golden ring made for himself, and when he wore it. he used to turn its stone toward the palm of his! hand. So the people too had gold made for themselves. The Prophet then ascended the pulpit, and after glorifying and praising Allah, he said, "I had it made for me, but now I will never wear it again". He threw it away, and then the people threw away their rings too. (Juwairiya, a subnarrator, said: I think Anas said that the Prophet was wearing the ring in his right hand)

QUICK LESSONS:
Set an example of good behaviour

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's discouragement of wearing gold rings. He had a golden ring made for himself, but when he saw that people were following his example and making their own, he threw it away and discouraged them from doing so. This teaches us that we should be careful about what we do because others may follow our example, even if it is something small like wearing a gold ring. We should always strive to set an example of good behavior and discourage any behavior that goes against Islamic teachings. We can also learn from this hadith that material possessions are not important in Islam; rather, it is our actions and intentions which matter most.
