Substitutes for Waist Sheets and Sandals

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ taught that people can wear trousers and socks as a substitute for waist sheets and sandals.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: The Prophet said, "Whoever has no Izar (waist sheet), can wear trousers; and whoever has no sandals, can wear Khuffs (socks made from thick fabric or leather, but cut them short below the ankles)".
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ قَالَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ‏ "‏ مَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ إِزَارٌ فَلْيَلْبَسِ السَّرَاوِيلَ، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ نَعْلاَنِ فَلْيَلْبَسْ خُفَّيْنِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about clothing and what to wear if you don't have certain items. The Prophet Muhammad taught that if someone does not have an Izar, which is a waist sheet, they can wear trousers instead. He also said that if someone does not have sandals, they can wear Khuffs instead. Khuffs are socks made from thick fabric or leather but cut short below the ankles. This hadith teaches us to be resourceful with what we have available to us in order to dress appropriately. It also teaches us the importance of modesty in our clothing choices so as not to draw attention away from our worship of Allah SWT.
