Clothing Prohibited During Hajj and Umrah

SUMMARY: A man asked the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) what type of clothes should be worn during Hajj and Umrah, to which the Prophet replied with a list of clothing items that should not be worn.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: A man said, "O Allah's Messenger . What type of clothes should a Muhrim wear Allah's Messenger replied, 'Do not wear shirts, turbans trousers hooded cloaks or Khuffs (socks made from thick fabric or leather); but if someone cannot get sandals, then he can wear Khuffs after cutting them short below the ankles. Do not wear clothes touched by saffron or wars (two kinds of perfumes).
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ رَجُلاً، قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا يَلْبَسُ الْمُحْرِمُ مِنَ الثِّيَابِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ "‏ لاَ تَلْبَسُوا الْقُمُصَ، وَلاَ الْعَمَائِمَ، وَلاَ السَّرَاوِيلاَتِ، وَلاَ الْبَرَانِسَ، وَلاَ الْخِفَافَ، إِلاَّ أَحَدٌ لاَ يَجِدُ النَّعْلَيْنِ، فَلْيَلْبَسْ خُفَّيْنِ، وَلْيَقْطَعْهُمَا أَسْفَلَ مِنَ الْكَعْبَيْنِ، وَلاَ تَلْبَسُوا مِنَ الثِّيَابِ شَيْئًا مَسَّهُ زَعْفَرَانٌ وَلاَ الْوَرْسُ

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith is about clothing prohibited during Hajj and Umrah. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advised people not to wear shirts turbans trousers hooded cloaks or Khuffs when performing these pilgrimages. He also warned against wearing clothes touched by saffron or wars which are two kinds of perfumes. If someone cannot get sandals then they can wear Khuffs after cutting them short below the ankles. This hadith teaches us that we must follow certain rules when performing religious duties such as Hajj and Umrah in order to show respect for Allah's commands. It also reminds us that we should avoid wearing anything that could distract us from our spiritual journey while on pilgrimage.
