SUMMARY: Killing oneself is a major sin and will be punished in the afterlife.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "Whoever purposely throws himself from a mountain and kills himself, will be in the (Hell) Fire falling down into it and abiding therein perpetually forever; and whoever drinks poison and kills himself with it, he will be carrying his poison in his hand and drinking it in the (Hell) Fire wherein he will abide eternally forever; and whoever kills himself with an iron weapon, will be carrying that weapon in his hand and stabbing his 'Abdomen with it in the (Hell) Fire wherein he will abide eternally forever".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith, narrated by Abu Huraira, warns against the grave sin of suicide. It explains that those who take their own lives will be punished in the afterlife by being thrown into hellfire and abiding there eternally forever. Furthermore, those who commit suicide with poison or an iron weapon will carry these items with them into hellfire and use them to further punish themselves. This hadith serves as a reminder that Allah has given us life as a gift and it is not ours to take away from ourselves. We must remember that Allah alone has control over our lives and He alone can decide when it should end. Therefore, we must never attempt to take our own lives as this is an act of disobedience towards Allah which carries severe consequences in the hereafter.
