The Prayer of Allah's Apostle

SUMMARY: Anas bin Malik was found offering the 'Asr prayer, which was the same prayer that Allah's Apostle used to pray.

Narrated Abu Bakr bin 'Uthman bin Sahl bin Hunaif: that he heard Abu Umama saying: We prayed the Zuhr prayer with 'Umar bin 'Abdul 'Aziz and then went to Anas bin Malik and found him offering the 'Asr prayer. I asked him, "O uncle! Which prayer have you offered?" He said 'The 'Asr and this is (the time of) the prayer of Allah s Apostle which we used to pray with him".
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ مُقَاتِلٍ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا أُمَامَةَ، يَقُولُ صَلَّيْنَا مَعَ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ الظُّهْرَ، ثُمَّ خَرَجْنَا حَتَّى دَخَلْنَا عَلَى أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ فَوَجَدْنَاهُ يُصَلِّي الْعَصْرَ فَقُلْتُ يَا عَمِّ، مَا هَذِهِ الصَّلاَةُ الَّتِي صَلَّيْتَ قَالَ الْعَصْرُ، وَهَذِهِ صَلاَةُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ الَّتِي كُنَّا نُصَلِّي مَعَهُ‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of prayer and how it was practiced by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It is narrated by Abu Bakr bin 'Uthman who heard it from Abu Umama that they prayed Zuhr with Umar ibn Abdul Aziz and then went to Anas ibn Malik who was offering Asr prayer at that time. When asked about which prayer he offered, Anas replied that it was Asr and this is the same prayer which they used to offer with Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. This hadith emphasizes on following the Sunnah of our beloved prophet ﷺ in all aspects of life including prayers as well as other religious practices such as fasting etc. It also teaches us to be punctual in our prayers and not delay them beyond their prescribed times so we can reap its full benefits and blessings from Allah SWT .
