Sahih al-Bukhari 5487 (Book 72, Hadith 13) #5263
Hunting with Hounds and Mentioning Allah's Name

SUMMARY: This hadith explains that when hunting with hounds, one should mention Allah's name before sending them and can eat of what they catch. However, if the hound eats of the game, then it should not be eaten as it may have been caught for itself.

Narrated Adi Bin Hatim: I asked Allah's Messenger , "We hunt with these hounds". He said, "If you send your trained hounds after a game and mention Allah's Name on sending, you can eat of what they catch for you. But if the hound eats of the game, then you must not eat of it, for I am afraid that the hound caught it for itself, and if another hound joins your hounds (during the hunt), you should not eat of the game".

We must remember to show respect towards animals and nature by following these teachings from Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
