Sahih al-Bukhari 5461 (Book 70, Hadith 90) #5236
Inviting Guests with Kindness

SUMMARY: A man named Abu Shu'aib invited the Prophet (ﷺ) and four other men to a meal he had prepared, but a sixth man followed them. The Prophet (ﷺ) gave Abu Shu'aib the choice of whether or not to invite him.

Narrated Abu Mas'ud Al-Ansari: There was an Ansari man nicknamed, Abu Shu'aib, who had a slave who was a butcher. He came to the Prophet while he was sitting with his companions and noticed the signs of hunger on the face of the Prophet . So he went to his butcher slave and said, "Prepare for me a meal sufficient for five persons so that I may invite the Prophet along with four other men". He had the meal prepared for him and invited him. A (sixth) man followed them. The Prophet said, "O Abu Shu'aib! Another man has followed us. If you wish, you may invite him; and if you wish, you may refuse him". Abu Shu'aib said, "No, I will admit him".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be kind and generous when inviting guests into your home or life in general; welcome people with open arms regardless of their background; show hospitality towards others regardless of social status or wealth; extend invitations even if unexpected visitors arrive unannounced; accept those who follow you even if uninvited; provide meals for those in need without hesitation .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of inviting guests with kindness. It was narrated by Abu Mas'ud Al-Ansari that there was an Ansari man nicknamed, Abu Shu'aib, who had a slave who was a butcher. He noticed that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ looked hungry and so he invited him and four other men to have a meal at his house. However, when they were on their way there, another man followed them and so the Prophet ﷺ asked if it would be alright for him to join as well. Abu Shu'aib said yes without hesitation which shows us how important it is to be kind when inviting guests into our homes or lives in general. We should always make sure we are welcoming people with open arms no matter what their background may be because this is what Allah expects from us as Muslims - hospitality towards others regardless of their social status or wealth.
