The Blessing of the Date Palm Tree

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) said that the date palm tree is as blessed as a Muslim.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: While we were sitting with the Prophet, fresh dates were brought to him. The Prophet said, "There is a tree among the trees which is as blessed as a Muslim" I thought that it was the date palm tree and intended to say, "It is the date-palm tree, O Allah's Messenger !" but I looked behind to see that I was the tenth and youngest of ten men present there, so I kept quiet' Then the Prophet said, "It is the date palm tree".

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect for nature, Humility, Respect for elders/authority figures .

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was sitting with his companions when fresh dates were brought to him. He then said that there is a tree among all trees which is as blessed as a Muslim. His companions thought he was referring to the date palm tree and wanted to confirm it but since they were ten people present and the youngest one did not want to speak up first, they kept quiet. Then the Prophet ﷺ confirmed that it was indeed the date palm tree. This hadith teaches us about how even something like a tree can be blessed by Allah SWT and how Muslims should respect all things in nature because of this blessing from Allah SWT. It also teaches us about humility and being respectful towards elders by not speaking up first without permission or invitation from them.
