Eating Habits of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ)

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) did not take his meals at a dining table, nor in small plates, and he never ate thin well-baked bread.

Narrated Anas bin Malik: The Prophet never took his meals at a dining table, nor in small plates, and he never ate thin well baked bread. (The sub-narrator asked Qatada, "Over what did they use to take their meals?" Qatada said, "On leather dining sheets".
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي الأَسْوَدِ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذٌ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ يُونُسَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ مَا أَكَلَ النَّبِيُّ عَلَى خِوَانٍ، وَلاَ فِي سُكْرُجَةٍ، وَلاَ خُبِزَ لَهُ مُرَقَّقٌ‏.‏ قُلْتُ لِقَتَادَةَ عَلَى مَا يَأْكُلُونَ قَالَ عَلَى السُّفَرِ‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the eating habits of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. He never took his meals at a dining table or in small plates, and he never ate thin well baked bread. Instead, they used to take their meals on leather dining sheets. This hadith teaches us that we should be mindful of our eating habits and follow the example set by our beloved prophet ﷺ. We should also strive to eat healthy food that is not overly processed or cooked too much as this was something that was avoided by him ﷺ. Furthermore, it teaches us to be mindful of how we present ourselves when eating; instead of using fancy dinnerware or tables, it is better to use simple items such as leather dining sheets which were used by him ﷺ himself.
