Sahih al-Bukhari 5412 (Book 70, Hadith 40) #5186
Devotion to Faith Despite Hardships

SUMMARY: The hadith is about Sa'd, one of the first seven people to embrace Islam, who was so devoted to his faith that he was willing to go without food and eat leaves. He expresses his disbelief that the tribe of Bani Asad would be teaching him Islam as he already knows it.

Narrated Sa'd: I was one of (the first) seven (who had embraced Islam) with Allah's Messenger and we had nothing to eat then, except the leaves of the Habala or Hublah tree, so that our stool used to be similar to that of sheep. Now the tribe of Bani Asad wants to teach me Islam; I would be a loser and all my efforts would be in vain (if I learn Islam anew from them).
