Sahih al-Bukhari 532 (Book 9, Hadith 11) #514
Proper Prostration and Spitting Etiquette During Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) taught us to perform prostration properly and not to spit in front or to the right while praying.

Narrated Anas: The Prophet said, "Do the prostration properly and do not put your forearms flat with elbows touching the ground like a dog. And if you want to spit, do not spit in front, nor to the right for the person in prayer is speaking in private to his Lord".

QUICK LESSONS:
Perform prostration properly while praying.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about proper etiquette during prayer. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that when we are performing our prostration, we should not put our forearms flat with elbows touching the ground like a dog. He also taught us that if we need to spit, we should not do it in front of us or on the right side as this is disrespectful since prayer is a private conversation between an individual and their Lord. We must remember these teachings when performing our prayers so that we can show respect for Allah SWT and for ourselves.
