Sahih al-Bukhari 5285 (Book 68, Hadith 34) #5063
Prohibiting Marriage with Christian and Jewish Women

SUMMARY: Marrying a Christian or Jewish woman is not allowed for believers as it involves ascribing partners in worship to Allah.

Narrated Nafi': Whenever Ibn 'Umar was asked about marrying a Christian lady or a Jewess, he would say: "Allah has made it unlawful for the believers to marry ladies who ascribe partners in worship to Allah, and I do not know of a greater thing, as regards to ascribing partners in worship, etc. to Allah, than that a lady should say that Jesus is her Lord although he is just one of Allah's slaves".

QUICK LESSONS:
Worship only Allah alone without associating any partners with Him in our worship .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the prohibition of marriage between Muslim believers and Christian or Jewish women. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that it is unlawful for Muslims to marry ladies who ascribe partners in worship to Allah, as this would involve worshipping someone other than Him. Jesus, although he was one of God's slaves, should not be worshipped as a Lord. This hadith teaches us that we should only worship Allah alone and not associate any partners with Him in our worship. We must also remember that marriage between two people of different faiths can lead to confusion and difficulty when it comes to religious practices within the family unit.
