Hygiene and Procreation in Islam

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) advised people to take care of their hygiene and appearance before entering their homes after a journey, and also encouraged them to have children.

Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah: The Prophet said, "If you enter (your town) at night (after coming from a journey), do not enter upon your family till the woman whose husband was absent (from the house) shaves her pubic hair and the woman with unkempt hair, combs her hair" Allah's Messenger further said, "(O Jabir!) Seek to have offspring, seek to have offspring!"

QUICK LESSONS:
Take care of your personal hygiene before entering your home after a journey . Have children .

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Jabir bin 'Abdullah states that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ advised people to take care of their hygiene and appearance before entering their homes after a journey. He said that if someone enters his town at night, he should not enter upon his family until the woman whose husband was absent shaves her pubic hair and the woman with unkempt hair combs her hair. This is an important reminder for us to maintain our personal hygiene as it is part of our faith in Islam. Additionally, the Prophet ﷺ also encouraged people to have children by saying “Seek to have offspring!” This shows us how important it is for Muslims to procreate as it is seen as a blessing from Allah SWT. Therefore, this hadith teaches us about both personal hygiene and procreation which are two essential values in Islam.
