Sahih al-Bukhari 5199 (Book 67, Hadith 133) #4979
Striking a Balance Between Religious Obligations and Other Responsibilities

SUMMARY: This hadith emphasizes the importance of striking a balance between religious obligations and other responsibilities.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Amr bin Al-'As: Allah's Messenger said, "O 'Abdullah! Have I not been formed that you fast all the day and stand in prayer all night?" I said, "Yes, O Allah's Messenger !" He said, "Do not do that! Observe the fast sometimes and also leave them (the fast) at other times; stand up for the prayer at night and also sleep at night. Your body has a right over you, your eyes have a right over you and your wife has a right over you".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith emphasizes the importance of striking a balance between religious obligations and other responsibilities. It is narrated by Abdullah bin Amr bin Al-As, who was one of the companions of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ advised Abdullah not to fast all day and stand in prayer all night as this would be too much for him to handle. Instead, he should observe fasting sometimes, leave it at other times, stand up for prayer at night but also sleep at night. He further emphasized that one should take care of their body, eyes and wife's rights as well. This hadith teaches us that we must strike a balance between our religious obligations and our worldly responsibilities so that we can fulfill both without compromising on either side. We must also take care of ourselves physically as well as emotionally by taking rest when needed and fulfilling our duties towards our family members with love and respect.
