Sahih al-Bukhari 5182 (Book 67, Hadith 117) #4963
Hospitality at Weddings

SUMMARY: Abu Usaid As-Sa'idi invited the Prophet (ﷺ) and his companions to his wedding, and his wife provided them with a drink of soaked dates.

Narrated Sahl: When Abu Usaid As-Sa'idi got married, he invited the Prophet and his companions. None prepared the food for them and brought it to them but his wife. She soaked some dates in water in a stone pot overnight, and when the Prophet had finished his food, she provided him with that drink (of soaked dates).

QUICK LESSONS:
Show hospitality towards guests on special occasions such as weddings; appreciate small gestures from others; strive to show kindness towards others in our daily lives.

EXPLANATIONS:
Abu Usaid As-Sa'idi was a man who showed hospitality to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his companions when he got married. His wife prepared food for them, and when they were done eating she provided them with a drink of soaked dates. This hadith teaches us that it is important to show hospitality to guests, especially on special occasions such as weddings. It also shows us that even small gestures can be meaningful; although the drink of soaked dates was simple, it was still appreciated by the Prophet ﷺ and his companions. We should strive to show kindness towards others in our daily lives, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem.
