The Value of Marriage

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) advised a man to marry, even if the Mahr was as small as an iron ring.

Narrated Sahl bin Sa'd: The Prophet said to a man, "Marry, even with (a Mahr equal to) an iron ring".
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ قَالَ لِرَجُلٍ ‏ "‏ تَزَوَّجْ وَلَوْ بِخَاتَمٍ مِنْ حَدِيدٍ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of marriage and its value in Islam. It was narrated by Sahl bin Sa'd that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ advised a man to marry even if his dowry or mahr was as small as an iron ring. This hadith shows us that marriage is highly valued in Islam and should not be taken lightly. Even if one cannot afford a large dowry or mahr for their spouse, they should still go ahead with it because it is a blessed act in the eyes of Allah SWT. Furthermore, this hadith also teaches us that we should not let materialistic things get in our way when it comes to fulfilling our religious obligations and duties towards Allah SWT.
