Mourning a Father at a Marriage

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) was present at the marriage of Ar-Rabi' and encouraged her to keep reciting elegiac verses mourning her father who had been killed in the battle of Badr.

Narrated Ar-Rabi': (the daughter of Muawwidh bin Afra) After the consummation of my marriage, the Prophet came and sat on my bed as far from me as you are sitting now, and our little girls started beating the tambourines and reciting elegiac verses mourning my father who had been killed in the battle of Badr. One of them said, "Among us is a Prophet who knows what will happen tomorrow". On that the Prophet said, "Leave this (saying) and keep on saying the verses which you had been saying before".

Remember your loved ones on happy occasions; Respect and revere Prophet Muhammad ﷺ; Celebrate joyous events like marriages; Recite elegiac verses mourning those lost in battles like Badr

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the marriage ceremony of Ar-Rabi', daughter of Muawwidh bin Afra. At this event, some little girls were beating tambourines and reciting elegiac verses mourning her father who had been killed in the battle of Badr. One girl said that among them was a prophet who knew what would happen tomorrow. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ then said to leave this saying and continue with their previous verses. This hadith teaches us that it is important to remember our loved ones who have passed away but also not to forget about celebrating happy occasions such as marriages. It also shows us how much respect and reverence we should have for Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as he was able to control his emotions even when reminded about his own losses in battles such as Badr.
