Sahih al-Bukhari 5097 (Book 67, Hadith 35) #4881
Principles Established Due To Barirah

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the principles established due to Barirah, which includes the option of her remaining with her slave husband after manumission, Wala for the one who manumits and charity given to Barirah.

Narrated 'Aisha: Three principles were established because of Barirah: (i) When Banra was manumitted she was given the option (to remain with her slave husband or not). (ii) Allah's Messenger said "The Wala of the slave) is for the one who manumits (the slave). (iii) When Allah's Messenger entered (the house), he saw a cooking pot on the fire but he was given bread and meat soup from the soup of the home. The Prophet said, "Didn't I see the cooking pot (on the fire)?" It was said, "That is the meat given in charity to Barirah, and you do not eat the (things given in) charity". The Prophet said, "It is an object of charity for Barirah, and it is a present for us".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be generous in giving charity even if you don't have much yourself; Respect freedom & choice; Establish principles based on justice & fairness; Follow Prophet Muhammad's example of generosity & kindness towards others; Appreciate small acts of kindness towards others; Give people options rather than forcing them into something against their will .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith talks about three principles that were established because of a woman named Barirah. The first principle was that when she was freed from slavery she was given an option to remain with her slave husband or not. The second principle was that the Wala belonged to whoever freed her from slavery. Lastly, when Prophet Muhammad entered a house he saw a cooking pot on fire but he was served bread and meat soup from the soup of the home. He asked why he wasn’t served from what was in the pot and it turned out it was charity for Barirah and so it became a present for them as well. This hadith teaches us that we should be generous in giving charity even if we don’t have much ourselves as Allah will reward us for our good deeds no matter how small they may seem. It also teaches us that freedom is something precious and should be respected by giving people options in life rather than forcing them into something they don’t want or like doing against their will.
