The Prophet's Stay in Mecca and Medina

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) stayed in Mecca for 10 years and Medina for 10 years, during which the Qur'an was revealed to him.

Narrated 'Aisha and Ibn 'Abbas: The Prophet remained in Mecca for ten years, during which the Qur'an used to be revealed to him; and he stayed in Medina for ten years.
حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُوسَى، عَنْ شَيْبَانَ، عَنْ يَحْيَى، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَتْنِي عَائِشَةُ، وَابْنُ، عَبَّاسٍ رضى الله عنهم قَالاَ لَبِثَ النَّبِيُّ بِمَكَّةَ عَشْرَ سِنِينَ يُنْزَلُ عَلَيْهِ الْقُرْآنُ وَبِالْمَدِينَةِ عَشْرَ سِنِينَ.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the time that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ spent in both Mecca and Medina. He spent ten years in each city; during his time in Mecca, he received revelations from Allah through the Holy Quran. In Medina, he established a community of believers who followed his teachings. This hadith teaches us that we should strive to follow Allah’s commands as revealed through His prophets. We should also strive to build strong communities based on faith and justice so that we can live together peacefully with one another.
