Sahih al-Bukhari 4942 (Book 65, Hadith 463) #4723
Respect Your Wife and Don't Laugh at Others

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of treating one's wife with respect and not to laugh at someone who passes gas.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Zama: That he heard the Prophet delivering a sermon, and he mentioned the she-camel and the one who hamstrung it. Allah's Messenger recited:-- 'When, the most wicked man among them went forth (to hamstrung the she-camel)'. (91:12:) Then he said, "A tough man whose equal was rare and who enjoyed the protection of his people, like Abi Zama went forth to (hamstrung) it". The Prophet then mentioned about the women (in his sermon)".It is not wise for anyone of you to lash his wife like a slave, for he might sleep with her the same evening". Then he advised them not to laugh when somebody breaks wind and said, "Why should anybody laugh at what he himself does?"

QUICK LESSONS:
Treat your wife with respect & kindness
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith emphasizes the importance of respecting one's wife, as well as not laughing at others. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was delivering a sermon when he mentioned the story of a man who hamstrung a she-camel, and then compared him to Abu Zama, who was known for his strength and courage. He then went on to say that it is not wise for anyone to lash their wife like a slave because they might sleep with her that same evening. He also advised them not to laugh when somebody breaks wind, saying "Why should anybody laugh at what he himself does?" This hadith teaches us that we should treat our wives with respect and kindness, rather than lashing out in anger or treating them like slaves. We should also be mindful of how we react when someone else makes mistakes or does something embarrassing; instead of laughing or mocking them, we should show compassion and understanding.
