EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that hell is an intensely hot place with sparks that are as big as logs used for heating in winter. Ibn 'Abbas was narrating this hadith to explain another hadith about hell. He was saying that the sparks from hell are huge and can be compared to logs which were collected for heating purposes during winter. These logs were usually three cubits long or shorter and were called Qasr. This hadith teaches us about the intensity of heat in hell and how it will be unbearable for those who end up there due to their sins on earth.
