Sahih al-Bukhari 4916 (Book 65, Hadith 436) #4696
Jealousy Amongst Wives of the Prophet

SUMMARY: The wives of the Prophet (ﷺ) were jealous of each other, so Umar suggested that if the Prophet divorced them, Allah would give him better wives. This verse was then revealed.

Narrated 'Umar: The wives of the Prophet out of their jealousy, backed each other against the Prophet, so I said to them, "It may be, if he divorced you all, that Allah will give him, instead of you wives better than you". So this Verse was revealed. (66.5)

QUICK LESSONS:
Avoiding jealousy and striving for peace between people who are close together such as family members or spouses.

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, it is narrated by 'Umar that the wives of the Prophet ﷺ were jealous of each other. Umar suggested to them that if they continued to be jealous and quarrel with each other, then perhaps Allah would give him better wives than them if he divorced all his current ones. This suggestion was followed by a revelation from Allah in which He said “It may be, if he divorced you all” meaning that it is possible for him to divorce all his current wives and marry others instead. This hadith teaches us about how jealousy can lead to negative consequences and how we should strive to avoid it in our lives as much as possible. It also shows us how important it is for us to have faith in God's plan and trust Him even when things don't go our way or when we are faced with difficult situations.
