Sahih al-Bukhari 4892 (Book 65, Hadith 412) #4673
Oaths of Allegiance and Bewailing the Dead

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) recited an oath of allegiance to his followers and forbade them from bewailing the dead. A woman withdrew her hand, saying she wanted to reward someone else's relative who had done the same for her. The Prophet (ﷺ) accepted her pledge of allegiance.

Narrated Um Atiya: We took the oath of allegiance to Allah's Messenger and he recited to us: 'They will not associate anything in worship with Allah,' and forbade us to bewail the dead. Thereupon a lady withdrew her hand (refrained from taking the oath of allegiance), and said, "But such-and-such lady lamented over one of my relatives, so I must reward (do the same over the dead relatives of) hers". The Prophet did not object to that, so she went (there) and returned to the Prophet so he accepted her pledge of allegiance.

QUICK LESSONS:
Take an oath of allegiance , Follow Allah’s commands .

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, narrated by Um Atiya, we learn about the importance of taking an oath of allegiance to Allah's Messenger and refraining from bewailing the dead. A woman was hesitant to take this oath because she wanted to reward someone else's relative who had done the same for her. However, when she explained this situation to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ he accepted her pledge without any objection. This teaches us that it is important for us as Muslims to take an oath of allegiance and refrain from bewailing our deceased relatives in order to show respect towards them and follow Allah’s commands. We should also remember that if we have a valid reason or explanation for not following a certain commandment then it is acceptable in Islam as long as it does not go against any other teachings or values found in Islam itself.
