Sahih al-Bukhari 467 (Book 8, Hadith 115) #459
The Importance of Islamic Brotherhood

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) praised Abu Bakr and emphasized the importance of Islamic brotherhood.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: "Allah's Messenger in his fatal illness came out with a piece of cloth tied round his head and sat on the pulpit. After thanking and praising Allah he said, "There is no one who had done more favor to me with life and property than Abu Bakr bin Abi Quhafa. If I were to take a Khalil, I would certainly have taken Abu- Bakr but the Islamic brotherhood is superior. Close all the small doors in this mosque except that of Abu Bakr".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of Islamic brotherhood. It was narrated by Ibn 'Abbas that during his fatal illness, Prophet Muhammad came out with a piece of cloth tied around his head and sat on the pulpit. He thanked and praised Allah before saying that no one had done more favor to him than Abu Bakr bin Abi Quhafa. He then said that if he were to take a Khalil he would have taken Abu Bakr but that the Islamic brotherhood is superior. He then asked everyone to close all small doors in the mosque except for Abu Bakr's door. This hadith emphasizes how important it is for Muslims to have strong bonds with each other as brothers in faith and how this bond should be prioritized over any other relationship or friendship between two people even if they are close relatives or friends like Abu Bakr was to Prophet Muhammad. It also teaches us about gratitude towards those who do favors for us as well as loyalty towards our fellow Muslims regardless of their social status or background.
