Sahih al-Bukhari 4796 (Book 65, Hadith 318) #4579
Respect for Foster Relations

SUMMARY: This hadith explains the importance of foster relations and how they should be treated with respect.

Narrated 'Aisha: Aflah, the brother of Abi Al-Qu'ais, asked permission to visit me after the order of Al-Hijab was revealed. I said, "I will not permit him unless I take permission of the Prophet about him for it was not the brother of Abi Al-Qu'ais but the wife of Abi Al-Qu'ais that nursed me". The Prophet entered upon me, and I said to him, "O Allah's Messenger ! Aflah, the brother of Abi Al-Qu'ais asked permission to visit me but I refused to permit him unless I took your permission". The Prophet said, "What stopped you from permitting him? He is your uncle". I said, "O Allah's Messenger ! The man was not the person who had nursed me, but the woman, the wife of Abi Al-Qu'ais had nursed me". He said, "Admit him, for he is your uncle. Taribat Yaminuki (may your right hand be saved)" 'Urwa, the sub-narrator added: For that 'Aisha used to say, "Consider those things which are illegal because of blood relations as illegal because of the corresponding foster relations".

QUICK LESSONS:
Respecting one's foster relatives just like one would their own family members regardless if they are related through blood or not .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of respecting foster relationships, which are just as important as blood relatives. It was narrated by Aisha, who was asked by her uncle Aflah to visit her. She refused to let him in until she asked permission from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ then told her that Aflah was still her uncle and should be respected as such, even though he wasn't related to her by blood. He also said that things that are illegal because of blood relations should also be considered illegal because of corresponding foster relations. This hadith teaches us that we must respect our foster relatives just like we would our own family members, regardless if they are related to us through blood or not.
