Sahih al-Bukhari 4782 (Book 65, Hadith 304) #4565
Referring to Adopted Sons by Their Biological Fathers

SUMMARY: This hadith explains that when referring to adopted sons, they should be called by the name of their biological father instead of the name of their adoptive father.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: We used not to call Zaid bin Haritha the freed slave of Allah's Messenger except Zaid bin Muhammad till the Qu'anic Verse was revealed: "Call them (adopted sons) by (the names of) their fathers. That is more than just in the Sight of Allah". (33:5)

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect your parents regardless if they are your biological or adoptive parents; Follow guidance from Allah; Treat others with kindness and respect; Call an adopted son with his/her biological father's name

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how adopted sons should be referred to. According to this hadith, it is more appropriate in the sight of Allah for adopted sons to be called by the names of their biological fathers rather than their adoptive fathers. This is because Allah has revealed a verse in the Quran which states that it is more just in His sight for them to be referred to as such. The lesson here is that we must always respect and honor our parents, even if they are not our biological parents. We must also remember that Allah knows best and He has given us guidance on how we should act and treat others with kindness and respect.
