Sahih al-Bukhari 462 (Book 8, Hadith 110) #454
Acceptance of Islam

SUMMARY: A man named Thumama bin Uthal was brought to the Prophet (ﷺ) and was released after he accepted Islam.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet sent some horsemen to Najd and they brought a man called Thumama bin Uthal from Bani Hanifa. They fastened him to one of the pillars of the mosque. The Prophet came and ordered them to release him. He went to a (garden of) date-palms near the mosque, took a bath and entered the mosque again and said, "None has the right to be worshipped but Allah and Muhammad is His Apostle" (ie he embraced Islam).

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a man called Thumama bin Uthal who was brought to the mosque by some horsemen. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ ordered them to release him and he went to take a bath in a nearby garden of date-palms. After that, he entered the mosque again and declared his belief in Allah and that Muhammad is His Apostle, thus accepting Islam. This hadith teaches us that anyone can accept Islam no matter their background or history, as long as they are sincere in their faith. It also shows us how merciful the Prophet ﷺ was towards those who accepted his message, even if they were previously hostile towards him or his followers. We should strive to emulate this example of mercy and acceptance when dealing with others who may not share our beliefs or opinions.
