Sahih al-Bukhari 4720 (Book 65, Hadith 242) #4503
The Triumph of Truth over Falsehood

SUMMARY: The hadith is about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) entering Mecca and destroying the idols around the Ka'ba, while proclaiming that truth has come and falsehood will vanish.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Masud: Allah's Messenger entered Mecca (in the year of the Conquest) and there were three-hundred and sixty idols around the Ka'ba. He then started hitting them with a stick in his hand and say: 'Truth (ie Islam) has come and falsehood (disbelief) vanished. Truly falsehood (disbelief) is ever bound to vanish'. (17:81) 'Truth has come and falsehood (Iblis) can not create anything'. (34:49)

QUICK LESSONS:
Stand up for what is right no matter how difficult it may be or how outnumbered we may feel by those who oppose us.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith narrates an event from the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). When he entered Mecca in the year of its conquest, there were 360 idols around the Ka'ba. He then started hitting them with a stick in his hand and proclaimed that truth has come and falsehood will vanish. This is a reference to two verses from Quran, 17:81 which states that truth has come and falsehood vanished, and 34:49 which states that only truth can create something while falsehood cannot create anything. This hadith teaches us about the triumph of truth over falsehood; it shows us how even though false beliefs may seem strong at times, they are ultimately powerless against true faith. It also serves as a reminder to always stand up for what is right no matter how difficult it may be or how outnumbered we may feel by those who oppose us.
