Supplication of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) for Refuge

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the supplication of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) to seek refuge from various afflictions.

Narrated Anas bin Malik: Allah's Messenger used to invoke thus: "O Allah! I seek refuge with You from miserliness, laziness; from old geriatric age the punishment in the grave; from the affliction of Ad-Dajjal; and from the afflictions of life and death.
حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ مُوسَى أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الأَعْوَرُ، عَنْ شُعَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ‏.‏ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَانَ يَدْعُو ‏ "‏ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْبُخْلِ وَالْكَسَلِ، وَأَرْذَلِ الْعُمُرِ، وَعَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ، وَفِتْنَةِ الدَّجَّالِ، وَفِتْنَةِ الْمَحْيَا وَالْمَمَاتِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith narrates a supplication that was made by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. In this supplication he asked Allah for refuge from miserliness and laziness; from old geriatric age; from the punishment in the grave; from the affliction of Ad-Dajjal; and from the afflictions of life and death. The main idea behind this hadith is that one should always seek refuge with Allah against all kinds of misfortunes or calamities that may befall them in their lives. It also teaches us to be mindful about our actions as we will be held accountable for them on Judgement Day. Furthermore, it encourages us to make dua regularly as it is an important part of our faith as Muslims.
