The Consequences of Oppression

SUMMARY: Allah gives respite to the oppressor, but when He takes him over, He never releases him.

Narrated Abu Musa: Allah's Messenger said, "Allah gives respite to the oppressor, but when He takes him over, He never releases him". Then he recited:-- "Such is the seizure of your Lord when He seizes (population of) towns in the midst of their wrong: Painful indeed, and severe is His seizure'. (11.102)

He explains that Allah will give respite to an oppressor, but when He takes them over, they will not be released from His punishment. To emphasize this point further, he recites a verse from the Quran which states that when Allah seizes towns in the midst of their wrongdoings it is painful and severe. This hadith serves as a reminder for us to stay away from any form of oppression and injustice as we know that there will be consequences for our actions in this life and in the hereafter.
