EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the context of a verse from the Quran which is found in (4:102) Surah An-Nisa, verse 102. The verse reads “Because of the inconvenience of rain or because you are ill” and it was revealed in connection with Abdur-Rahman bin Auf who was wounded. Ibn Abbas narrated this hadith to explain why this particular verse was revealed. It is believed that Abdur-Rahman bin Auf got injured during one of his battles and he could not perform Hajj due to his injury. Therefore, Allah sent down this particular verse as an exception for him so that he would not be held accountable for not performing Hajj due to his injury or any other reason such as bad weather conditions. This hadith teaches us that Allah is merciful and compassionate towards His servants and He makes exceptions for those who are unable to fulfill their obligations due to certain circumstances beyond their control.
