Sahih al-Bukhari 4582 (Book 65, Hadith 104) #4365
The Power of Reciting the Qur'an

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was moved to tears when he heard the recitation of Surah An-Nisa.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Masud: Allah's Messenger said to me, "Recite (of the Qur'an) for me," I said, "Shall I recite it to you although it had been revealed to you?" He said, "I like to hear (the Qur'an) from others". So I recited Surat-an- Nisa' till I reached: "How (will it be) then when We bring from each nation a witness, and We bring you (O Muhammad) as a witness against these people?" (4:41) Then he said, "Stop!" And behold, his eyes were overflowing with tears".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the power of reciting the Quran. It is narrated by Abdullah bin Masud that Allah's Messenger said to him "Recite for me" and Abdullah bin Masud replied "Shall I recite it to you although it had been revealed to you?" To which Allah's Messenger replied "I like to hear it from others". When Abdullah bin Masud recited Surat-an-Nisa until he reached verse 4:41 , Allah's Messenger said "Stop!" and his eyes were overflowing with tears. This shows us how powerful and emotional reciting the Quran can be. It also teaches us that even though Prophet Muhammad was already familiar with the verses of Quran, he still enjoyed hearing them from others as well. We should all strive to recite Quran regularly in order to reap its spiritual benefits and feel closer to God.
