Sahih al-Bukhari 4539 (Book 65, Hadith 62) #4323
True Poverty and Humility

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) taught that true poverty is not measured by the amount of food or money one has, but rather by their humility and lack of need to ask for help from others.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "The poor person is not the one for whom a date or two or a morsel or two (of food is sufficient but the poor person is he who does not (beg or) ask the people (for something) or show his poverty at all. Recite if you wish, (Allah's Statement): "They do not beg of people at all". (2:273)

QUICK LESSONS:
Be humble, Give charity to those in need.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us about true poverty and humility. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that a person who is truly poor does not beg or ask people for something, nor do they show their poverty in any way. He then quoted the verse from the Quran which states “They do not beg of people at all” (2:273). This hadith teaches us that true poverty is not measured by how much money or food one has, but rather it is measured by one's humility and lack of need to ask for help from others. It also encourages us to be generous with our wealth and give charity to those in need.
