The Significance of 'Arafat in Islam

SUMMARY: This hadith explains the importance of 'Arafat in Islam and how it was ordered by Allah for His Prophet to go there.

Narrated 'Aisha: The Quraish people and those who embraced their religion, used to stay at Muzdalifa and used to call themselves Al-Hums, while the rest of the Arabs used to stay at 'Arafat. When Islam came, Allah ordered His Prophet to go to 'Arafat and stay at it, and then pass on from there, and that is what is meant by the Statement of Allah:--"Then depart from the place whence all the people depart".. (2:199)

QUICK LESSONS:
Obey Allah's commands without any hesitation or doubt

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the importance of 'Arafat in Islam. Before the advent of Islam, the Quraish people and those who embraced their religion used to stay at Muzdalifa and call themselves Al-Hums, while other Arabs stayed at 'Arafat. When Allah revealed His message through Prophet Muhammad, He ordered him to go to 'Arafat and stay there before departing from that place. This is what is meant by Allah's statement in (2:199) Surah Baqarah verse 199 "Then depart from the place whence all the people depart." ('Arafah is a valley located near Makkah). Thus, this hadith highlights how important it is for Muslims to visit this sacred site as part of their pilgrimage rituals. It also teaches us that we should always obey Allah's commands without any hesitation or doubt.
