Observe passing times carefully; Use your allotted times wisely; Fulfill your obligations according to Allah's commands; Distinguish between different parts of days/nights; Make sure you are doing what Allah has asked you to do during each part of the day/night .

This hadith speaks to the importance of distinguishing between night and day. It tells us that we should not be too lax in our observance of time, as 'Adi found out when he could not distinguish between a white thread and a black thread at night. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ then said that if one cannot tell the difference between these two threads, then their pillow is too wide. This implies that we should take care to observe the passing of time so as to make sure we are fulfilling our obligations during each part of the day or night. We must also remember that Allah has given us a certain amount of time on this earth, so it is important for us to use it wisely by making sure we are doing what He has asked us to do during each part of the day or night.
