Sahih al-Bukhari 435, 436 (Book 8, Hadith 85) #429
Warning Against Building Places of Worship at Graves

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) warned Muslims against the practices of Jews and Christians, who built places of worship at the graves of their Prophets.

Narrated 'Aisha and 'Abdullah bin 'Abbas: When the last moment of the life of Allah's Messenger came he started putting his 'Khamisa' on his face and when he felt hot and short of breath he took it off his face and said, "May Allah curse the Jews and Christians for they built the places of worship at the graves of their Prophets". The Prophet was warning (Muslims) of what those had done.

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith narrated by 'Aisha and 'Abdullah bin 'Abbas, we learn that when the last moment of the life of Allah's Messenger came he started putting his Khamisa on his face. When he felt hot and short of breath he took it off his face and said "May Allah curse the Jews and Christians for they built the places of worship at the graves of their Prophets". This was a warning to Muslims not to follow in their footsteps as this is considered a major sin in Islam. We should remember that worshipping anyone other than Allah is forbidden in Islam. We should also remember that visiting graves is allowed but building places for worship there is strictly prohibited.
