Sahih al-Bukhari 4494 (Book 65, Hadith 21) #4282
Turning Towards Ka'ba During Prayer

SUMMARY: The hadith is about how the people were instructed to turn their faces towards the Ka'ba of Mecca while they were offering Fajr prayer at Quba mosque.

Narrated Ibn 'Umar: While some people were offering Fajr prayer at Quba mosque, someone came to them and said, "Qur'anic literature" has been revealed to Allah's Messenger tonight, and he has been ordered to face the Ka'ba (of Mecca) so you too, should turn your faces towards it. Their faces were then towards Sham (Jerusalem), so they turned towards the Qibla (ie Ka'ba of Mecca).

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow instructions from Prophet Muhammad, Face towards Ka’aba during prayers

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how a group of people were instructed to turn their faces towards the Ka'ba in Mecca while they were offering Fajr prayer at the Quba mosque. It was revealed to Prophet Muhammad that Quranic literature has been revealed and he was ordered to face the Ka'ba, so those who were praying also turned their faces towards it. This hadith teaches us that when we are praying, we should always face the direction of Ka’aba in Mecca as it is considered as a holy place for Muslims and it is important for us to show respect by facing this direction during our prayers. It also teaches us that we should always follow instructions given by Prophet Muhammad as he was sent by Allah with divine knowledge and wisdom.
