Sahih al-Bukhari 4485 (Book 65, Hadith 12) #4273
Believing in Allah and What is Revealed

SUMMARY: This hadith is about not believing or disbelieving the people of the Scripture, but instead to believe in Allah and what is revealed to us.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The people of the Scripture (Jews) used to recite the Torah in Hebrew and they used to explain it in Arabic to the Muslims. On that Allah's Messenger said, "Do not believe the people of the Scripture or disbelieve them, but say:-- "We believe in Allah and what is revealed to us". (2:136)

QUICK LESSONS:
Believe only on God's revelations

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about how the people of the scripture used to recite their holy book, which was written in Hebrew, and explain it in Arabic for Muslims. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ then said that we should not believe or disbelieve them, but instead we should only believe in Allah and what has been revealed to us. This means that we should put our faith only in God's words as found within the Quran. We must remember that no matter who tells us something, if it does not align with what God has said then it cannot be true. We must also remember that all religions are respected by Islam as long as they do not contradict with Islamic teachings.

This hadith teaches us an important lesson about faith; no matter who tells you something or how convincing they may be, if it does not align with what God has said then you must reject it and put your trust only in Him. It also reminds us of our duty to respect other religions even though they may differ from ours.
