Sahih al-Bukhari 4443, 4444 (Book 64, Hadith 464) #4237
Taking Graves as Places of Worship

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) warned the Muslims against taking graves of prophets as places of worship, which was a practice among Jews and Christians.

'Aisha and 'Abdullah bin 'Abbas said, "When Allah's Messenger became ill seriously, he started covering his face with his woolen sheet, and when he felt short of breath, he removed it from his face and said, 'That is so! Allah's curse be on the Jews and the Christians, as they took the graves of their prophets as (places of worship),' intending to warn (the Muslims) of what they had done".

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect all Prophets sent by God, Worship God alone without associating any partners with Him

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the warning given by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). When he became seriously ill, he covered his face with a woolen sheet and when he felt short of breath, he removed it from his face and said “That is so! Allah’s curse be on the Jews and the Christians, as they took the graves of their prophets as places of worship”. This hadith teaches us that we should not take graves or tombs as places for worship because this was a practice among Jews and Christians. We should only worship Allah alone without associating any partners with Him. We should also respect all prophets sent by Allah to guide mankind to His path.
