Sahih al-Bukhari 4386 (Book 64, Hadith 409) #4182
Accepting Good Tidings

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) gave good tidings to the people of Banu Tamim, but they asked for material things in return. He then gave the same good tidings to people from Yemen who accepted them without asking for anything in return.

Narrated 'Imran bin Husain: The people of Banu Tamim came to Allah's Messenger , and he said, "Be glad (ie have good tidings). O Banu Tamim!" They said, "As you have given us good tidings then give us (some material things)". On that the features of Allah's Messenger changed (ie he took it ill). Then some people from Yemen came, and the Prophet said (to them) "Accept good tidings as Banu Tamim have not accepted them". They said, "We accept them, O Allah's Messenger !"

QUICK LESSONS:
Accept all blessings with humility and gratitude.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about accepting good tidings with gratitude and not expecting any rewards or material things in return. The Prophet (ﷺ) gave good tidings to the people of Banu Tamim, but they asked for something in exchange. This displeased him and he then gave the same good tidings to people from Yemen who accepted them without asking for anything else. This teaches us that we should accept all blessings with humility and gratitude, rather than expecting something more out of it. We should be content with what we have been given and thank Allah SWT for His mercy upon us.
