Sahih al-Bukhari 4350 (Book 64, Hadith 377) #4150
The Virtue of Forgiveness

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) taught that one should not hate another person, even if they have done something wrong.

Narrated Buraida: The Prophet sent 'Ali to Khalid to bring the Khumus (of the booty) and I hated 'Ali, and 'Ali had taken a bath (after a sexual act with a slave-girl from the Khumus). I said to Khalid, "Don't you see this (ie 'Ali)?" When we reached the Prophet I mentioned that to him. He said, "O Buraida! Do you hate 'Ali?" I said, "Yes". He said, "Do you hate him, for he deserves more than that from the khumus".

QUICK LESSONS:
Show mercy towards others even if they have done something wrong .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the virtue of forgiveness and mercy. It was narrated by Buraida, who said that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ sent Ali to Khalid to bring the Khumus from a booty. Buraida disliked Ali because he had taken a bath after a sexual act with a slave-girl from the Khumus. When they reached the Prophet ﷺ, Buraida mentioned this to him and he asked if she hated Ali for it. She replied yes and then he said that she should not hate him as he deserved more than that from the khumus. This hadith teaches us an important lesson about forgiveness and mercy; even when someone has done something wrong, we should still show them kindness and understanding instead of hatred or resentment. We must remember that Allah is Most Merciful and He loves those who are merciful towards others too.
