Sahih al-Bukhari 4213 (Book 64, Hadith 253) #4027
Marriage Banquet of the Prophet (ﷺ) and Safiya

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) married Safiya and invited the Muslims to his marriage banquet. The Muslims discussed if she would be one of the Prophet's wives or a lady captive. When he departed, he made her observe the veil, indicating that she was one of his wives.

Narrated Anas: The Prophet stayed for three rights between Khaibar and Medina and was married to Safiya. I invited the Muslim to h s marriage banquet and there wa neither meat nor bread in that banquet but the Prophet ordered Bilal to spread the leather mats on which dates, dried yogurt and butter were put. The Muslims said amongst themselves, "Will she (ie Safiya) be one of the mothers of the believers, (ie one of the wives of the Prophet ) or just (a lady captive) of what his right-hand possesses" Some of them said, "If the Prophet makes her observe the veil, then she will be one of the mothers of the believers (ie one of the Prophet's wives), and if he does not make her observe the veil, then she will be his lady slave". So when he departed, he made a place for her behind him (on his and made her observe the veil.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect marriages & Celebrate love between two people committing themselves for life in front Allah SWT .
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about when the beloved prophet Muhammad ﷺ married his wife, Safiyyah. He invited all of his followers to a banquet in celebration but there was no meat or bread served at this banquet. Instead, Bilal spread out leather mats with dates, dried yogurt and butter on them for people to eat from instead. The Muslims were discussing whether or not she would be one of the mothers of believers or just a lady captive in what was owned by him as they did not know yet if he would make her observe the veil which is an indication that she is one of his wives. When he departed with her after their marriage ceremony, he made her observe the veil which indicated that she was indeed one of his wives and not just a lady captive owned by him as some had speculated before this point. This hadith teaches us about how important it is to respect marriages and how we should celebrate them joyfully with our loved ones around us even if it may be simple compared to other celebrations we have seen before because ultimately it is about celebrating love between two people who are committing themselves to each other for life in front of Allah SWT .
