Sahih al-Bukhari 4198 (Book 64, Hadith 238) #4013
The Prophet's Warning to Khaibar

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) and his army were welcomed by the people of Khaibar, but he warned them that evil would befall them if they did not heed his warnings. He also forbade the consumption of donkey meat as it was impure.

Narrated Anas bin Malik: We reached Khaibar early in the morning and the inhabitants of Khaibar came out carrying their spades, and when they saw the Prophet they said, "Muhammad! By Allah! Muhammad and his army!" The Prophet said, "Allahu-Akbar! Khaibar is destroyed, for whenever we approach a (hostile) nation (to fight) then evil will be the morning for those who have been warned". We then got the meat of donkeys (and intended to eat it), but an announcement was made by the announcer of the Prophet, "Allah and His Apostle forbid you to eat the meat of donkeys as it is an impure thing".

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Anas bin Malik tells us about a time when the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his army arrived in Khaibar. Upon seeing them, the inhabitants of Khaibar welcomed them with joy and excitement. However, despite their warm welcome, the Prophet warned them that if they did not heed his warnings then evil would befall them. He also forbade the consumption of donkey meat as it was considered impure according to Islamic teachings. This hadith teaches us that we should always take heed from warnings given by those who are wise and knowledgeable in order to avoid any harm or danger coming our way. It also reminds us that we should always follow Islamic teachings even if it means abstaining from something seemingly harmless such as eating donkey meat which is considered impure according to Islamic law.
