Sahih al-Bukhari 4145 (Book 64, Hadith 189) #3964
Defending Allah's Apostle

SUMMARY: Hassan defended the Prophet (ﷺ) against the infidels and was willing to exclude even the Prophet's forefathers from his poetic verses.

Narrated Hisham's father: I started abusing Hassan in front of 'Aisha. She said, "Do not abuse him as he used to defend Allah's Apostle (against the infidels)'.Aisha added, "Once Hassan took the permission from the Prophet to say poetic verses against the infidels. On that the Prophet said, 'How will you exclude my forefathers (from that)? Hassan replied, 'I will take you out of them as one takes a hair out of the dough". Hisham's father added, "I abused Hassan as he was one of those who spoke against 'Aisha".

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect those who have done good deeds; defend your faith; seek permission before taking action
EXPLANATIONS:
Hassan was a companion of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ who defended him against infidels. He asked for permission from the Prophet ﷺ to recite poetry against them, but he also wanted to make sure that he did not include any of his forefathers in it. 'Aisha, one of his wives, praised him for this and reminded Hisham's father not to abuse him as he had done so much good for Islam. This hadith teaches us that we should always be respectful towards those who have done good deeds and defended our faith, even if they are not related to us or part of our family. We should also strive to defend our faith whenever possible and seek permission before doing so in order to ensure that we do not hurt anyone else in the process.
